The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is the investigative branch of the Roswell Police Department.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division provide the intensive follow-up investigations of felony cases and serious misdemeanor criminal cases referred from the Field Service Division which are not resolved during the initial response by uniformed personnel.  It is the goal of CID Detectives to ensure that every report written receives the proper case closure.

Detectives investigate murders, armed robberies, aggravated assaults, rape, family violence and investigate reported sexual assaults and exploitation of children, as well as, property and financial crimes.

Once a case is received by the Criminal Investigations Division, it is reviewed for positive solvability factors and is then assigned to one of three investigative groups: Crimes against Persons, Property Crimes or Financial Crimes. Cases are assigned based on the offense type and the investigative focus required by the Detective. During complex criminal investigations, CID often works in collaboration with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in order to pool resources and more effectively solve crimes.

All CID Detectives receive extensive training in homicide investigations, arson investigation, interview and interrogation, child sexual abuse investigations, white collar & cybercrime investigations. Detective Lisa Brackeen

When fully staffed, CID is supervised by one a Sergeant with 10 Detectives assigned to the division. One Detective position is slotted as a Cold Case Investigator. Detectives assigned to the division are police officers who have served a minimum of 2 years in the Field Services Division and have been specially selected and trained to investigate serious criminal offenses.

The Technical Service Unit (TSU) and the Property Unit of the Roswell Police Department are also under the control of the Criminal Investigation Division.

CID also has two highly qualified secretaries that provide digital transcriptions, Spanish translations and general clerical support to CID Detectives.
